DS18B20 Instead of reading a voltage with an analog pin, we read a serial stream of bits from the sensor on one of our digital pins. One such sensor is the Dallas Semiconductor DS18B20. It uses what Dallas Semiconductor calls the OneWire protocol to communicate back and forth between the sensor and the tiny computer. It has three pins, one for power, one for ground, and one for the data link (it is this single data link line that gives the protocol its name).
DS18B20 is a commonly used digital temperature sensor, and its output is digital signal. It has the characteristics of small size, low hardware overhead, strong anti-interference ability and high precision.
Regarding parasite Powered ,The output terminal is approximately a constant voltage supply, but the output current is very small, Can simplify the circuit to some extent.
The parasitic power supply is not the actual power supply device, but a way of power supply, that is, through the data line. When the data line level is high, the capacitor in the device is charged; when the data line level is low, the capacitor discharges to supply power to the device. Such as DS18B20(using parasitic power supply VDD grounding is one core, another core is data line).

DS18B20 temperature sensor is mainly used in cold storage temperature monitoring, drug GMP monitoring system, telecom machine room monitoring, beer production, building automation, warehouse temperature monitoring, environmental monitoring, process monitoring temperature, air conditioning monitoring, incubation temperature control, breeding temperature measurement, the greenhouse temperature monitoring, etc.
Q: Where physically on the device does the temperature measurement take place?
A: The DS18B20 does not sense temperature directly through the package. For all package types, the DS18B20 senses temperature primarily through the GND pin. Ensuring a good thermal connection between the GND pin of the device and the heat source you wish to measure will provide the best results.
Q: Is there a way to extend the temperature range of the DS18B20?
A: No, there is not a way to increase the range it reads. The DS18B20 reads with an accuracy of ±0.5°C from -10°C to +85°C and ±2°C accuracy from -55°C to +125°C.
Q: Will a conformal coating affect the thermal response of the DS18B20?
A: A thin conformal coating will not affect the thermal response of the device.
Q: Using OneWireViewer, can more than one DS18B20 be logged?
A: Yes, every DS18B20 will have a file where you can store the data. Data will be received from one DS18B20 at a time.
Q: Can you power the DS18B20 from a 3V battery?
A: The DS18B20 can be powered from any source. Since batteries will dip in voltage, a nominal 3V battery may not always supply the minimum 3.0V the DS18B20 requires. We suggest a step-up voltage regulator is used to ensure the device is supplied within its rated voltage range of 3.0V to 5.5V.
